CAMERASHOP: Demystifying your DSLR or Mirrorless Digital Camera
Sunday, March 26th @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm
$195So, you’ve ponied up for the fancy camera. But with all its buttons, settings, modes, and capabilities, this beast of a camera has you wondering if the iPhone isn’t a better choice. FEAR NOT! Workshop is excited to offer CAMERASHOP, an in-depth photography workshop for beginners. In this two-session intensive, designed specifically for Digital SLR and mirrorless advanced digital cameras, instructor Kurt Manley will help you navigate your camera’s settings, use manual modes, and learn what’s really happening when you turn those dials!
Things like f-stops and shutter speeds start to make sense as you learn how to use aperture and shutter. You will learn how to beautifully blur backgrounds, perfectly freeze motion, and bring your entire picture into focus. This class will also cover camera topics and techniques such as metering, composition, and how to choose ideal shooting conditions. Kurt will also explain some must-know technical details, such as using histograms, setting white balance, choosing lenses and file types, and post processing.
This workshop also includes a class field trip! You’ll hone your new skills as Kurt leads you on a photo hike around Golden Gate Park. Once it’s all said and done, you’ll leave with the skills and confidence to start taking true creative control over your photographs and begin shooting photos you are excited to share!
Session date / times for this class:
Session 1 – Sunday, March 26th – 11am – 5pm
Session 2 – Sunday, April 2nd – 11am – 4pm
PLEASE NOTE: Students taking this class should plan on spending at least one hour outside, shooting during daylight hours to finish the practice assignment. ALSO, you’ll need an advanced digital camera for this class such as a DSLR or a mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses. Please let us know upon sign up what camera you have so we can make sure your camera is suitable for this class. It’s a hands on course using modes that are not present in all cameras so this step is important. If you’re not sure just ask us!
Supplies Needed: A DSLR or mirrorless digital camera with full manual controls (a camera with interchangeable lenses and M or manual mode on the dial). Point and shoot cameras, even with an “M” on the dial are not usually suitable for this class. We ask that you email your camera’s model type and brand name to instructor Kurt Manley as soon as you sign up for class. PLEASE contact Kurt at kurtamanley@gmail.com. Also, we take a 30-minute break for lunch in the afternoon, so we recommend bringing a packed lunch or grabbing something quick at Gus’s Market on Haight Street.
Instructor Bio: Bay area native Kurt Manley is a fine art and commercial photographer. He works in all mediums of photography from traditional printing in the darkroom to shooting and processing digitally.
