So you know how to operate a sewing machine, but when you bought your first clothing pattern, you couldn’t make heads or tails of it…  Worry not! In Sewing 102: Track Jacket, our expert sewing instructor Hayley will teach you how to read and alter a pattern as she guides you through the construction of this oh-so soft, lightweight track jacket!

In this class, you will learn about:

– reading, using, and altering your pattern
– measuring yourself for your pattern
– cutting your fabric
– working with stretch / elastic fabric
– pockets + zippers!
– using the zig zag stitch

This is a two-session class. The first session is three hours and focuses on altering your paper pattern and cutting your fabric.  The second session is six hours and focuses on sewing your fabric pieces together and completing the construction of your jacket.  Session date/times are:

By the end of this class, you will have officially become “pattern literate”, and you’ll leave with an amazing jacket, as well as your own sewing pattern to use on future projects. We will be using the popular Arlo Track Jacket pattern from Friday Pattern Company.  This pattern is good for sizes XS-7X and length sizes of 22in, 24in, or 26in.  PLEASE CONTACT US if you have any questions about sizing or fit.

Prerequisite: To attend this class, you MUST have taken either Sewing 101 or Sewing Bootcamp at WorkshopSF. (We’ll also take you if you’re already competent and comfortable using a sewing machine.) We’ll briefly go over the Janome 2212 at the beginning of class. If you have questions about the sewing skill level required by this class, please email us.

Supplies Needed: None. We will supply all of the sweatshirt fabric, zipper, etc. to complete your project. Colors may vary based on availability, but we will normally offer you a choice of black, navy, and one other rotating color. You can choose up to two colors max for your jacket.

Instructor Bio: Hayley has been sewing since the tender age of three. A jack of all trades, She has extensive experience with sewing, past works include upholstery, stuffed animals, home goods, clothing, alterations and repairs, tailoring, bags, and just about anything else you can think of!
