Woodburning & Pyrography: Feel The Burn! $48

In this class, you will learn the basics of wood burning. Also known as pyrography, this artistic method involves using a hot metal objects to carve designs, patterns, and illustrations onto wood pieces. The process is similar to tattoo’ing, except instead of using needles to put decorative ink into your right bum cheek, you use a hot metal tip to put decorative burn marks onto a flat sheet of wood!!

This class will go over all of the woodburning tools and supplies, safety measures, and examples of different woodburning effects you can achieve with the various metal tips. You’ll receive instruction and practice time with the wood burning tool so you can good at making your burn marks and lines. Next, you’ll learn how to use stencils and/or illustration templates to transfer an image outline onto wood, then use the woodburning tool to complete the image. Each student will have the opportunity to hone their skills on a variety of projects including decorative wood slices, wooden kitchen utensils, and a small wooden block that can be made into a wall mounted beer opener, sign, or jewelry rack. Each student will leave with a handful of completed wood pieces, as well as a list of recommended gear and resources to hit up in order to continue the new found pyromania at home!

Supplies Needed: None, but students are encouraged to come to class alert and prepared, since we’ll be working with tools that will melt your face. So please skip the pre-class whiskey shot in exchange for perhaps an espresso shot this time!
