Pickling 101: Pickled Presents! $46
/Ah, pickling... the wonderful food preservation technique that transforms simple veggies into tart little treasures. And what Sunday morning Bloody Mary isn’t perfected by a garnish of yummy pickled green beans? In this class, Kelly McVicker of McVicker Pickles guides you in the tasty art of pickling and canning. You will learn how to pickle different types of vegetables at home, pickling safety tips, and tricks for creating the best flavors in your pickled goodies.

For this special holiday workshop, we ll be making two to three jars of "pickled presents" and decorating them with cool tags and twine. Whether you re broke, mall-a-phobic, or just like to impress people with your thoughtful craftiness, you ll walk away with some delicious gifts and solid skills that you can use to create even more pickled treasures to give away or hoard for yourself!

Each student will leave class with two to three small jars of pickles and a list of resources, places to buy pickling supplies, pickling tips, and recipes to ensure that you can repeat this process at home.

teacher bio:
Kelly McVicker has brine in her blood. Born and raised in Kansas, she learned all about pickling, canning, jellying and jamming from her grandmas. Several 4-H county fairs later her career as a women s rights fundraiser brought her to San Francisco--and sat her squarely in front of a computer for eight-plus hours a day. Desperate to use her farmgirl hands to make something she could touch, taste and smell, she soon found herself at the farmers market bartering over 15 pound boxes of cucumbers, and loving it. Following her Grandma Harriet s tradition of kicking ass and taking names with her prize-winning jams at the Kansas State Fair, Kelly s pickles and mustard won first place in three categories at the 2012 Eat Real Festival in Oakland! She launched McVicker Pickles in 2012 to bring her pickles, mustard and Bacon Jam to the masses. You can find her at
